Comedy and sports mix in the hybrid Finnish entry for Cartoon Movie 2021
Finland’s only entry for this year’s digital Cartoon Movie is funny and whimsical Bear Park. It is the first feature-length animation that Turku-based animation studio Pyjama Films is developing.
The film will be directed by the dynamic duo Leena Jääskeläinen and Kaisa Penttilä, both experienced in series and shorts, but now experimenting with the mix of digital 2D and stop-motion.
Best & Bester deal with Nickelodeon announced
Another series by Finnish animation studio Gigglebug Entertainment goes to the major kids’ channel. Best and Bester was first presented at Cartoon Forum in 2017 by company founders Anttu Harlin and Joonas Utti. It is only last October when Gigglebug announced its collaboration with Disney on making The Unstoppable Yellow Yeti the original developed at Gigglebug.
EU Media development support for Pikkuli’s Christmas movie
The Pikkuli character, the animated series that has been shown in approximately 30 countries worldwide, will soon appear in an adventure fairy-tale film set up during the Christmas season. The film project was granted development support from the Creative Europe Media Fund at the time of the very tight round.
Momolu TV series will go straight into production with commissions from North America and Nordic channels
The series, first presented in Cartoon Forum 2018, goes straight into production in Finland, Canada and Belgium. Distribution in Germany, Austria and Switzerland will be handled by Atmosphere Media and the partners will jointly release the series on global channels from 2022. The IP was created by design specialist and arts educator Leena Fredriksson from Finland.
